E-mail, Forum, IRC, Facebook, Last.fm… so I might as well mention it here too: Justice will be performing at the Roseland Theater in Portland on March 26th.  (Yes, Wednesday night. :-/)  I already got my ticket and everything.  So FYI if you wanna meet up.

Songs Not About My Cats

with 2 comments

Or any cats.  I don’t have cats.  But I do have an entry in need of a title.

Bobby said that he noticed that I haven’t posted any music in a while.  Well Bobby, I noticed that you don’t even have a blog.  (Your name isn’t a link!)  Get on that.

Aesop Rock – None Shall Pass

Lily Allen – Don’t Get Me Wrong

Bat For Lashes – What’s A Girl To Do

The Blakes – Two Times

Bloc Party – Hunting For Witches (Ruckus Roboticus Remix)

Familjen – Det Snurrar I Min Skalle

Gui Boratto – Beautiful Life

Earlimart – Happy Alone

Electric Six – Down At McDonnelzz

You! I wanna take you to a gay bar McDonnelzz!

Enon – Mirror on You

The Fiery Furnaces – Ex-Guru

The Gossip – Careless Whisper

Jens Lekman – Friday Night at the Drive-In Bingo

Holy Fuck – Lovely Allen

Fan video.

Holy Ghost! – Hold On

Not really a video at all.

Hot Chip – Shake A Fist

Not really a video at all. Part II.

Juanes – A Dios le pido

Lethal Bizzle – Police On My Back

Los Campesinos – You! Me! Dancing!

Lupe Fiasco – Little Weapon

M.I.A. – Jimmy

This song and “Paper Planes” are all you need from Kala.

Maxi Geil! & PlayColt – Making Love in The Sunshine

I complained last March that YouTube didn’t have a video for this song. But I was just a little early. So here it is. Much later.

Kylie Minogue – Wow

Oh Kylie, stop singing about me.

A Mountain of One – Ride

Róisín Murphy – Overpowered

Pleasure – Back to You

Robert Pollard – The Killers

Olivia Ruiz – J’traîne des pieds

Sons & Daughters – Gilt Complex

EPIC WIN!!111eleven!1

(From the Wireless Festival in London.)

Finally, some good footage from a Daft Punk show.

I don’t know how effective the light show is for those who are far away from the stage. It’s best to get close and be blinded by the lights. Unless, of course, you are temporarily distracted by a girl who came to dance next to you. Dammit wimmin. >.<

Daft Punk > wimminz.

One Week Late

with one comment

Alan Braxe and Fred Falke – Intro

I’ve always liked the very few Alan Braxe tracks I happened upon; the latest being the remix of Justice’s D.A.N.C.E. And now I finally listened to “The Upper Cuts” collection, which are mostly new to me and mostly good stuff. (There’s a 99% chance Justice will play some Alan Braxe at Holocene. Hearing damage by French House? Yes please!)

Black Lips – Cold Hands

The Mendoza Line – 31 Candles
NOT! Because YouTube doesn’t have everything. “30 Year Low” is a pretty good (mini) album. 31 Candles is my favorite track from it. Few free tracks that aren’t it here.

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean

The first moonwalk is the best.

Midlake – Head Home

The official video uses a shorter version of the song.

Midnight Juggernauts – Shadows

Monkey Swallows the Universe – Little Polveir

Ryan Adams – Come Pick Me Up

I'm Just Daft

leave a comment »

Dear girl at the brewfest who was waiting for me to talk to you: I’m sorry.

I seriously thought you were with that guy who was walking near you, because, well, I was raised to be a pessimist. But then he split off in another direction. And you? You walked past me while delivering amazing eye contact. Then you looked over your shoulder. Back at me. Hesitating. (While Bobby telling me to talk to you and how money I am.)

So you are into guys who waste opportunities?

I’m an ass.

The original plan was to have Montana to pick me up in Portland on the way to Seattle for Daft Punk. But I had to go back to Corvallis. Because of all the things I could’ve forgotten, I forgot the tickets.

I’m an ass.

(That’s far better than showing up in Seattle without the tickets.)

But enough about my mistakes.

I need a new superlative for the Daft Punk show.

Thousands of people dancing and jumping to the same beats at earthquake* volume. Half of them landing on my feet.

It was LOUD. Kidney shaking visions blurring loud. I’m not exaggerating. During The Rapture’s First Gear, I noticed that the bass was blurring my vision.

It was one of the most physically demanding thing I’ve done. I’ve never sweat so much in my life. Or had so many other people’s sweat on me.

Montana: o/

Now here are some music that aren’t Daft Punk.

Camera Obscura – Super Trouper

Escort – All Through The Night

Pelle Carlberg – Clever Girls Like Clever Boys Much More Than Clever Boys Like Clever Girls

(The Real) Tuesday Weld – Bathtime In Clerkenwell

Tegan and Sara – Back in Your Head

The White Stripes – You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told)

* Earthquake is now an adjective. I just made it so.

Robots, Texans, and Pot Smokers

with 2 comments

Since updates in the concerts page aren’t reflected in the RSS feed, and instead of mentioning them in IRC, a forum, e-mail, and AIM (and Twitter!? and Facebook!? and Last.fm events!? and to Your Mom!?), I’ll just write about them here. If you want to join me, let me know. Or if you want to go there and pretend not to know me, that’s cool too.

Daft Punk will be at the WaMu Theater in Seattle on July 29. The newly married Montana and I are going. We have yet to order tickets. But we are going!

Spoon is going to perform at Crystal Ballroom on September 6. Let’s rock it!

The Flaming Lips will be at the Roseland Theatre on September 19. I’ll make the drive for this one if I have some company. I have not listened to the latest album. Mediocre reviews or something. But I do like quite a few of their older songs.

Heal My Wounds and Dry My Tears

with one comment

I have not been writing much on this blog. There are several reasons for that. One, lately I amLOOK MUSIC VIDEOS!

Architecture in Helsinki – Heart It Races

The new AiH album is OK. But it’s not nearly as good as In Case We Die. This song is damn catchy though!

Art Brut – Direct Hit

The new album is fantastic.

Chromatics – In The City

Saw them last night at Holocene. Good times.

The Explorers Club – Last Kiss

Poor video of a live performance. Get the mp3 instead.

Paul Haig – Running Away

In Flagranti – Just Gazing

Some of you might be familiar with the footage in this non-official video. It works pretty well for the song.

Justice – D.A.N.C.E.

Justice is so hott right now yes? At any rate, † is a pretty good album. (Also, they’ve got me listening to a Britney Spears song.)

The Knife – Marble House

This is not exactly a new song. I have already linked to We Share Our Mother’s Health from the same album when I first started embedding video to cover the complete lack of writing on this blog. But I have been listening to this song (and the Rex The Dog Remix) A LOT lately, at least once per day.

Spoon – Don’t You Evah

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is good. But you already knew that.
